In the first half of the much-anticipated showdown between the two Harbaugh brothers, one have thought it would be a "super" easy win for older brother, John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. Leading 21-6 by halftime, the Ravens had taken control of the game despite of some resistance from the Niners.
In the beginning of the second half, it seemed as though San Francisco's defense continued to grow weary as Baltimore's Arthur Jones received the ball in the back of the end-zone and charged down the field untouched for a 108-yard touchdown return. Shortly into the Niners next drive, the power went out causing a 34 minute suspension until power was fully restored.
This completely turned the game around. the once stagnant, predictable game became a battle between the two teams as San Francisco gained momentum as the Baltimore Ravens played as though they were asleep. It took them a little while, but going into the fourth quarter, the Ravens were defending their score instead of increasing it. Although the Niners never got ahead, they put up a good fight until the end as Kaepernick milked the clock until the last two minutes where he attempted three passes ( including one controversial pass) meant for Michael Crabtree. Since no penalty was called ( a decision that Jim Harbaugh may talk about for years), the 49ers turned the ball over on downs with 1:46 left in the game. San Francisco managed to force a three and out on Baltimore's next drive, but by the time they reached the fourth down only 11 seconds remained.
The Ravens had finally won their second SuperBowl.
Ray Lewis gained his ring before he retires, Joe Flacco of Baltimore was awarded MVP of SuperBowl XLVII.
When asked about his experience playing against his brother, the winning
head coach remarked that it was, "The hardest thing [he] ever
experienced."
